फार विशेष अणि जास्ती लोकांस कळनात॑ एक ठिकाणाविषीं हे लेखांत सांगतों. मयिलाडुतुरैच (जुन॑ काळांत मायवरम म्ह्णून होत॑ हे ठिकाणाच नांव) जवळच॑ श्री राघवेन्द्र स्वामी ब्रिंदावनाविषयीन. उद्योगाच कामाव॑र वर्षा-वर्षी मयिलाडुतुरैला जायाच योग मला मिळत असत॑. जाताना अग्गीन कोणत तरीन एक ठिकाणी दर्शन कराच भाग्यहीं मिळत॑. यंदा श्री राघवेन्द्र स्वामी ब्रिंदावन दर्शन कराच भाग्य मिळ्ळ॑.
ठिकाणाच नांव, कुंजिमेडु. प्रति वर्षीन मैलाडुतुरैला जात असतों तरीन, तसच, मझ॑ स्वंत गांव (तंजावूर) हेज जवळ असलांपिरिपणीं आज पतोरी मी इकडल॑ ब्रिन्दावनाला गेलत॑ नाही. मझ॑ बरोर काम करणार एकलें कडून हे जवळ॑ हे ठिकाणाविषयीन कळ्ळांपिरीपसून तिकड॑ जांव॑ (जाम॑) म्हणून मनांत होत॑. पण, अत्ता पर्यंतीन ते आशा सार्थक झाल्होत नाही.
यंदा मैलाडुतुरैला जातांपणीं कुंजिमेडूला जायाच उद्देश नोहत॑ अणी तजविषयीन योचना पणीन केल नाही. पण, काल॑ अकस्मातविणी दर्शन कराच भाग्य मिळ्ळ॑. देवाच दया म्हणूनच सांगाम॑. मैलाडुतुरै, कुंभकोणम, तंजावूर असलते ठिकाणी अग्गीं पाष्टे-पाष्टे हिंडणे म्हणजे एक चोखोट अनुभव म्हणूनेच सांगाम॑. कोठ पाह्यलतरीन झाड-झुडूपाच हिरव॑, चोखोट वार॑, दुसर वेगळ॑ ठिकाणांपक्षा उणे मेळ अणी गलीज, सुमार शंभर-शंभर गज (मीटर) होतांतरून वांकाच उणे रुंदाच बीद॑ - हे अग्गीनेच हे ठिकाणाच विशेषता. काल पाष्टे हे अग्गीन अनुभव करून कुंजुमेडु दर्शन कराच भाग्य मला मिळ्ळ॑.
This post is about my visit to and dharshan at a very unique, rare, less known place. This is a Sri Raghavendra Swamy Brindavana near Mayiladuthurai (called Mayavaram in earlier days). Every year, I do get opportunities to visit Mayiladuthurai on official trip. And every year, dharshan at some place happens. This time, it is at a Raghavendra Swamy Brindavana.
The place is called Kunjimedu. Though I have been visiting Mayiladuthurai every year, and this place also happens to be close to my native place (Thanjavur), I have not been to this Brindavana at Kunjimedu. Recently, through my Colleague who lives in Srirangam, came to know of this place and ever since, I have been wanting to visit. I have been wanting to visit this place, and it was only in my wish list.
My trip to Mayiladuthurai this year started with no plans of Kunjimedu visit. I had no plans of going to this place this time and hence had not even thought about it. But it was a pleasant surprise and a divine grace that I could visit here and have dharshan at this place yesterday. Early morning travel in and around Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur etc is always an experience to relish. The greenery all around, the fresh air, the relatively less polluted places, relatively narrow roads with frequent bends every hundred metres – all these are quite characteristic of such places. Thus, I was in for all these pleasant experiences early in the morning yesterday. When I got an opportunity to visit and have dharshan at this place Kunjimedu, I had no hesitation in going ahead.
मैलाडुतुरैंतून तिरुप्पनंदाल जायाच मुख्य वाटेंत सुमार तीस किलोमीटर जाऊन, तिकडून एक ल्हान अडवाटा वाटे थोड आंत गेलतर॑ कुंजिमेडु येईल. जास्ती लोकांस हे ठिकाणाच विषयीन कळ्ना, मैलाडुतुरैंत राहणार पोणावांटा लोकांस पणीन. फार ल्हान खेडे म्हणूया कुंजिमेडूला.
तीन-चार बीदाच अग्रहारम मात्र आहे. हाळ झालते वातावरण, शब्दाच तंटा असलते अग्गीन थोडकपणीं नाहीत॑ एक कुग्राम॑. मैलाडुतुरैंतून येताना कावेरी नदी वलांडूनेच येम॑. गेल वर्षाच बरोर पाह्ताना यंदा कावेरींत पाणी उजंड उणे होत॑. वाळून पडल्होतत॑ नदी पाव्हून मनाला संकट वाटल॑. पाणी भरून प्रवाह होत असताना पाह्याला कावेरी प्रमाद असेल॑. डोळेलीं मनालीं संतोष द्याच दृश्य. कुंजिमेडु ब्रिन्दावन एक कालवायीच कांठशी आहे. म्हणजे, कावेरीच एक ल्हान भाग वेगळ॑ होऊन इकडून प्रवाह होत॑ अणी श्री राघवेन्द्र स्वामीच ब्रिन्दावन हे कालवायीच कांठशी आहे. पणी भरून होत॑. मुख्य होऊन, प्रवाह होयाच पाणी, तसच राहू्न असाच नोहो.

This place is approximately 30 kms from Mayiladuthurai – it is on the Mayiladuthurai, Thiruppanandhaal main road. From this main road, one has to take a small diversion and go interior to reach this place. It is relatively less known and even localities at Mayiladuthurai are not familiar about this place.
Kunjimedu is a very small place. It is just a few streets. It is an agraharam. This place is totally devoid of any artificial influences, pollution, noise etc. While travelling from Mayiladuthurai to this place, one has to cross Cauvery river. Unlike last year, this year, Cauvery is dried up and the water flow is very less – a rather painful sight. Cauvery while in full flow is such a treat to one’s eyes and mind, a pleasure. However, Kunjimedu Brindavan is situated on the banks of a culvert (vaaikkal in tamil) – that is, Cauvery branches off herself into a narrow stretch and runs via this place Kunjimedu. Sri Raghavendra Swamy Brindavana is situated on the banks of this culvert. This culvert is full of water, and importantly, it is running water and not stagnant.
अरुणोदि सूर्य उदय होतानच मी तिकड पावलों. ब्रिन्दावनाच व॑रीन नदीच व॑रीन सूर्यकिरण पडून झळकाच दृश्य. जाऊन पावतांतरून आंत वेघाच द्वाराकडे श्री हनुमानाच (प्राण देवाच) विग्रह अणी श्री राघवेन्द्र स्वामीच पेट (पट) हे दोनींच डोळेला पडाच. प्रवेशद्वाराकडूनेच दर्शन करून तिकडेच ओठाकलसताना दूरून आचरे याच पाह्यलों. घरांतून ब्रिन्दावनाला येत होते. मला पाह्यल॑-की-नाही संतोषांत बोलाल आरंभ केले. मी कोठसून आलों, कस॑ हे ठिकाणाविषीं मला कळ्ळ॑, अस॑ अग्गीन विचारले. भक्तलोके अप्रूप होऊनच इकडे याच. तेहीं कोणतरीन सांगून कळिवून येतील॑. हेजमळेच मला पाव्हून आचारेला आश्चर्यहीं संतोषहीं झालते म्हणून मला कळ्ळ॑. हेनी अम्च॑ मराठी बोलणार म्हणून मझ॑कडे अम्च॑ भाषांत बोलणेंत फार संतोष दाखिवले. मला आंत बलायींगून जाऊन अलंकार अणी पूजाच व्यवस्था आरंभ केले. हे अग्गीन (अलंकार अणी पूजा) होत असताना मी तिकडे बसून मझ॑ नित्यपूजा, मंत्रोचार हे अग्गीन करत होतों. ब्रिन्दावनाला पह्जते पाणी अग्गीन बाजू असाच कावेरी नदींत्सूनच शेंदून आणच॑. हे काळांत हे एक अप्रूप विषय म्हणूनच सांगाम॑.
पाष्टेच वेळ आचारे अणी मी दोघे विना वेगळ॑ कोणीं तिकडे नोहते. ओढणे ढकळणे "जरगंडी", "हाडि हाडि", "सरका", "वाट सोडा" "आड करूका" अस॑ अग्गीन करालकी सांगालकी कोणीं नोव्हते. सन्निधानाच उदंड बाजू बसिवून स्वामीजी मझ॑कडे बोलले. कोण्त विधाच तंटाईं नोव्ह्त॑. वेगळ॑ ब्रिंदावनांत असास्क॑ इकडे जास्ती गुंप असना म्हणट्ले.
I was fortunate to reach this place rather early in the morning, with sunrise just happening, rays falling on Cauvery and the Brindavana shining in sun’s rays. As one reaches the place, the first sight that one comes across is an idol of Sri Hanuman and a picture of Sri Raghavendra Swamy near the entrance. I had dharshan at the entrance and was waiting there, the Achar could be seen from a distance. He was on his way to the Brindavana from his residence. The Achar, on seeing me, was pleasantly surprised, and was curious to know about my whereabouts and how I came to know of this locality, as visitors to this place are very minimum and whoever visits and has dharshan does it only by being referred or told by somebody. Interestingly, Achar is amcha Marathi Achar and was extremely glad to converse in our language. He allowed me inside and got ready for the day’s alankara and Puja. As arrangements, abhisheka and alankara was on, I continued my daily prayers and chanting. Interestingly, water for Brindavana usage is fetched from Cauvery – just a few metres away from the Brindavana. A rarity these days.
In the morning hours, there was nobody there, other than myself and the Achar. There was nobody around - no pulling, pushing, jarigandi, haadhi, haadhi, sarkaa, vaata soda, aada karukaa etc. Swamiji was graceful enough to make me sit very close to the sannidhana and chant with no disturbance at all. I was told that this Brindavana, unlike other places, is sparsely crowded.
स्वामीजीच सन्निधानाच समोर श्री हनुमानाच (प्राण देवाच) एक सन्निधान आहे. ब्रिंदावनांत आवश्याजोक्त ठाम (ठांव॑) आहे. तसेच, प्राकार पणीं बेष आहे. भक्त लोकांस प्राकारांत अभिषेकीं अलंकारीं सौकर्यांत बसून पाह्याला होईल॑. थोडक जास्ती लोके आलतरीन कष्ट काहीं होईना.
तीर्थ-अक्षता मिळताना अण्खीन अस॑ दर्शनाच सौकर्य करून द्या म्हणून स्वामीजीला प्रार्थना केलों.
About the Brindavana, opposite to Swamiji Sannidhana is a sannidhana of Sri Hanuman. The Brindavana is adequately spacious, and the prakaara is well laid out. The prakaara can easily accommodate a medium sized gathering who can sit comfortably and watch the abhisheka and alankara.
Got theertha and akshatha and prayed to Swamiji, thanked him for his continued grace, requesting him to give me more such opportunities and dharshan.
ब्रिंदावनाच मागेपटीस प्रत्येक होऊन एक ब्रिंदावन आहे. श्री पुरुषोत्तम तीर्थ यांच. हेनी एक "बिडी-स्वामी" होते. हे सन्निधानांत नर्तन-क्रिष्णाच एक ल्हान विग्रहाच दर्शन करुया. हेजीन विना, श्री राघवेन्द्रस्वामीच सन्निधानाच समोरल॑ श्री हनुमानाच (प्राण देवाच) सन्निधानाच बाजू, श्री हनुमानाच (प्राण देवाच) अण्खीन एक देऊळ प्रत्येकविणी आहे.
हे ब्रिंदावनाला, आंतीन बाहेरीन भरून ठांव॑ (ठाम) आहे. भोंताले जमीनांत विस्तारविणी हिरव॑ गवत अहे तरीन, ते अण्खीन थोड बेष असलासुया म्हणून मला वाटल॑. हे अग्गीन बरोर पाह्यींगाला पह्जतेएवढ॑ आदाय मिळत नाहीकी कायकी.
On the rearside of the Brindavana, there is a separate sannidhana for Sri Purushothma Theertha – a Bidi Swami. This sannidhana has a small idol wherein Narthana Krishna gives dharshan to devotees. In addition to Sri Hanuman sannidhana opposite to Sri Raghavendra Swamy Sannidhana, a separate shrine for Sri Hanuman is also available.
This Brindavana is very spacious, both inside and also outside the premises. The Brindavana premises is surrounded by a big lawn, though the maintenance and upkeep of this lawn may be better – probably, lack of resources towards Maintenance and upkeep of premises.
एक मुख्य विषय काय म्हणजे, माध्वांस विना वेगळ॑ कोणालीन हे ब्रिंदावनांत सोडनात॑. माध्व नोहो म्हण्जे, आंत वेघुया म्हणून योचना करणे व्यर्थच. गांवांतल॑ भरून थोर-थोर लोके, राष्ट्रीय लोके, हेनी अग्गीन हे ब्रिंदावनांत वेघाला प्रयत्न करत आहेत. कोण्त विधाच शिपारशी आणलतरीन, ब्रिंदावनाच अधिकारीलोके यांस कोणालीन आंत सोडत नाहीत॑. हे श्री राघवेन्द्रस्वामीच ठिकाण आहे. त्यांस कळल॑ कोण आंत येऊया, कोण येताने म्हणून.
The significant aspect of this Brindavana is, this is exclusively for Madhwas only. It is a strict no entry for Non-Madhwas and the Brindavana is quite strict on this. I was told that there are several bigwigs and political big shots, local personalities, who are trying to enter and are approaching through various sources, but the trust of this Brindavana is very strict on their stance it seems. It is Sri Raghavendra Swamy’s place. He knows better who are to be shown the “entry” board and “no entry” board.
तीर्थ-प्रसाद, नैवेद्य हेला अग्गीन आवश्या प्रकार पह्यजतेवढ॑ पात्र-भांडी इकड आहे. संपाकाच खोली मोठ॑ आहे. थोर-थोर खोली, थोर माडी, हेजांत अग्गीन लोकांस सुलुभांत वसति करूया.
The Brindavana has a big kitchen with all facilities and vessels for Theertha prasada and Neivedhya. There are big halls and a terrace which can easily accommodate a group of people.
अत्ता इकडल॑ आचारे, श्री विजेंद्राचार, ह्यंच विषीन एक-दोन सांगतों. हेनी अम्च॑ मराठी बोलणार. स्वंत गांव वट्टनकाडु. पण इकड-तिकड॑ भरून ठिकाणी होते. चेन्नैंत पणी होते. ट्रिप्ळिकेनांत स्टार तियटराच बाजू असाच श्री हनुमान देऊळाच आचारे ह्यंच भाऊ. व्यासतीर्थ प्रतिष्टापना केलते 732 विग्रहांत हे एक. माध्व लोके कोण आलतरीन हेनी संतोषांत स्वागत करतात, अणी हे ठिकाणाविषीन बेष प्रचार करांत म्हणून पणीं विचारींगतात. पुढे कळिवनास्क॑ कोण्त दिवस आलतरीन तीन लोकांस तीर्थ-प्रसाद इकड मिळल म्हणट्ले. जास्ती लोके आलतर॑, पुढेच सांगट्लतर॑ पह्जते व्यवस्था कराला होईल.
A few words about the Achar there – he is Sri Vijendra Achar and is amcha Marathai. Originally hailing from Vattankaadu, he has been in various places including Chennai. His brother is the Achar at Triplicane Sri Hanuman temple (near Star theatre), and this is one of the 732 idols installed by Sri Vyaasa Theertha. The Achar welcomes any Madhwa and has requested that news be spread about this unique place. He said that upto 3 members can be accommodated for Theertha Prasad on any day with no prior intimation. If the number is more, prior intimation would help in making arrangements.
हे ब्रिंदावनाच स्थापना 1908 वर्षांत झाल॑. शताब्दीच उत्सव 2008 वर्षांत करताना मंत्रालय स्वामीजी आल्होते. ब्रिंदावन अग्गीन बरोर पाह्यींगाला एक प्रैवेट ट्रस्ट आहे. एक कुटुंबेच हे चालिवाच.
अम्च॑ मेंबर्सांत कोणालतरीन कुंभकोणम, मैलाडुतुरै इकड अग्गीन जायाच उद्देश असलतर॑ कुंजुमेडूला जाऊन दर्शन करून यांत. थोडकपणीं तंटा होयनास्क॑ फार चोक्कोट दर्शन मिळल॑. कावेरी कालवायांत पाणी भरून असलतर॑ तिकड स्नान कराच भाग्य पणीं मिळल॑. सेवा, नवस अस॑ कायतरीन करांम म्हणजेकी, नाही, पारायण कराच उद्देश असलतरकी तला अग्गीन हे ठिकाण फार बेष असल॑. देवाच दया अणी अनुग्रह असाच शांत अणी प्रसन्न वातावरण, पकृति सौंदर्य, हे अग्गीन इकड अनुभव करूया. कोणालतरीन तिकड जायाच उद्देश असलतर॑ मला संपर्क करांत. तिकड मिळाच वसतीच पूरा विवर मेस्सेज करून देतों.
हे ठिकाणाच दर्शन पुढेच केलसलते मेंबर्स कोणीं आहेंत म्हणजे, त्यंच अनुभव अम्हाला कळिवलतर॑ संतोष. तसच, अण्खीन जास्ती काईं विवर असलतर॑ कळिवांत॑.
ऑफीसाच काम होत-ते-करतां तीर्थ-प्रसाद घ्याला झाल नाही. तरीन, केम्हींचप्रकार एक चोखोट दर्शन झाल॑, अणी झालावर ऑफीसच॑ कामावर गेलों.

पांच सहा घंटेला एक टॅक्सि भाडेला काढींगून गेलतर॑ परतून येणेपणीं श्रम नाहीस्क॑ होईल. हेला 750 रुपेच खर्च होऊया. कोणालतरीन तिकड जायाच असलतर॑ मझ॑ भाऊ नागराजनाला 9751023407 नंबरांत बलावलतर॑ टॅक्सि करून देईल. चिदंबरमांत्सून टौण-बसांत पणीं जाऊया. भरून बस आहे. बस-स्टांडांत्सून एक-एक घंटेलीं निघाच बस मठाच बाजू पर्यंतीं जाईल.

This Brindavana was established in the year 1908, and the centenary was held in 2008 with Mantralaya Swamiji being present for the event. It is being managed by a private trust and is family managed.
Members planning a trip to / in and around Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai may please plan a visit here and have dharshan. An excellent dharshan and a great experience with literally 0 disturbance is a assured here. If fortunate, one can even have Cauvery snaana if Cauvery culvert is in full flow. Those desirous of performing any sevas or wanting to take up any paarayana would find this a very nice place – full of meaningful silence, serenity, nature’s beauty, calm and divine grace. It was certainly a very good experience and dharshan as always, though could not stay back or wait till theertha Prasad, being a working day. Completed the dharshan and proceeded with the day’s official work.

Thangasal S Satyanarayanan :- Kunjimedu is a very calm & quiet place & to have a peaceful darshan of Sri Rayaru Brindavana.The place is easily accessible by bus from Chidambaram & the nearest place is Kattumargudi. If you are visiting in a group it is good to inform a day in advance so that they can make ready for 'thherhaprasada'. You can see hundreds of devotees only during Rayaru Aradhana days. You can contact Vijendra achar (nick name Guru achar) a couple of days in advance & his contact no is 7639724189.
You can engage a taxi for 5 to 6hrs including for your return trip which may cost you 750 rs. The place is well connected by Townbus service from Chidambaram bus stand every one hr & stops near the Mutt.
